Thom Yorke

Thom Yorke is the frontman for the hit rock band - Radiohead.

This was something that was obsessing me and creating a writer's block. To get involved and get stuck in, get the proper information about what's going on has really helped.

Thom Yorke on climate change

A long time supporter of Friends of the Earth, Thom agreed to help launch the Big Ask - our new campaign to fight climate change.

Afterwards he told us why.

What was it that first switched you on to climate change?

It's something that has been going around and around for a while.

The first distinct point I remember was when we were making the Kid A record. We discovered all these statistics on the internet about global warming.

And the final straw?

What finally nailed it for me was hearing just one too many people in the media - disputing climate change. Saying - "No, the scientists agree that blah, blah, blah".

That, to me, is just the ultimate evil.

Everybody knows it's happening. I don't know where these people get off, man. Because this jeopardises everybody's future, all our children's future.

If he's really worried about the threats to British citizens he should perhaps focus less on "the war on terror" and more on imminent climate collapse.

Thom Yorke on Blair

What was it about this campaign that drew you in?

Well, Friends of the Earth, you lot, you're pretty effective at getting Bills through without the Government realising...

The Big Ask, the 3% cut thing of carbon emissions. To me, that was the first piece of sense I'd read about the whole thing for ages.

Well, my son really loves wildlife. And everytime he draws a polar bear I want to tell him there probably won't any by the time...he's my age. That's kinda hard to deal with.

Thom Yorke on the future

And finally those people who say "Bring it on - let climate change happen"?

Well, they obviously haven't read up on it, have they? That's born out of ignorance.

Log on to http://www.thebigask.com, find out who your MP is, ask for his support, ask him what he's doing.

There's lots of information about carbon emissions and so on, what you can do.
