About Friends of the Earth

Friends of the Earth's overarching goal is to protect the planet's life-support systems, such as a stable climate, healthy forests, reliable food supplies and clean water, so that everyone gets their fair share of the Earth's riches now and in the future.

Friends of the Earth is a campaigning charity. Our campaigns change the world by changing politics because to make real and lasting changes, we need governments to act on our behalf. We're the only organisation whose main focus is involving people in taking political action together to solve the environmental problems we all face.

We are dependent on individuals for over 90% of our income and this year we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary. As part of Friends of the Earth International, we have around 2 million supporters across five continents and more than 75 national organisations worldwide.

Where your money goes

For every £1 that is given to Friends of the Earth, 89p goes directly to research and campaigning. We work hard to get to the root of problems and to identify the best solutions, pooling the knowledge and resources people need to take action and get results. We're the campaigners that put your concerns to key decision-makers and argue passionately for change on your behalf.

We've done some amazing things over our 40 year history, from banning whale hunting in Europe to the induction of doorstep recycling in England and Wales to our incredible Big Ask campaign, which saw the introduction of the Climate Change Act, a world first law setting legal limits on the UK's emissions of greenhouse gases.

It's been eventful, but there's still plenty more to be done to ensure a sustainable future and a healthy planet for everyone. You can find out more about our current campaigns and how you can get involved.

Thank you for supporting Friends of the Earth.
