McDonald's blow to GM industry12 June 1999
McDonald's, the UK's largest fast food outlet, is the latest company to respond to consumer concern over genetically modified (GM) foods. In a statement the company says that it has already removed GM ingredients [such as soya and maize] and is "working with our suppliers to secure sustainable, non-GM sources" of derivatives such as soya oil and lecithin.
McDonald's announcement is the latest in a long line from companies reacting to public concern over GM food. The UK's top supermarkets are all in the process of phasing out GM ingredients and derivatives from their own brand products.
