GM rules blocked at Biosafety meeting

New Zealand and Brazil scuppered hopes for new rules to control GM crops at the Biosafety Protocol meeting in Montreal, Canada.

This is despite over 100 countries demanding controls to limit GM contamination.

The negotiations aimed to bring in international rules to reduce contamination from imported GM crops and introduce full labelling.

But Brazil and New Zealand sided with the biotech companies and blocked all moves to make the laws stronger.
