2013 Big Green Bike Ride report17 May 2013
London to the New Forest
Saturday 27 - Sunday 28 April 2013
Thanks to everyone who took part in this year's Big Green Bike Ride.
Cycling enthusiasts rode from London to the New Forest to raise money for Friends of the Earth. Supporters took on the challenge of 125 miles over the weekend, or shorter one-day options on Saturday or Sunday.
Fifty cyclists set off from Kingston on Saturday morning for a tough 90 mile leg through the Surrey and Hampshire countryside - complete with intermittent hail stones and glorious sunshine.
Charlotte from the Big Green Bike Ride team said: 'Once we reached the beauty of the New Forest it was time for a well-earned rest and scrumptious freshly cooked paella - followed by a night under the stars.'
A new group joined the team on Sunday morning. This included Friends of the Earth's Executive Director, Andy Atkins, who rode the 40 mile circuit of the stunning national park. The ride culminated in Brockenhurst where the riders gallantly reached the finish line.
There was a great mix of supporters of all ages and cycling experience over the weekend.
Most evident was the huge amount of enthusiasm from everyone that took part. It was great to see the hard work everyone put into their training and fundraising paying off.
The photo gallery is coming soon - but in the meantime there's a taster below.
