Planning: the climate solution30 July 2010
With our allies in 2009 Friends of the Earth got the previous Labour Government to make climate change a top priority for local council planning decisions.
That win is now under threat.
Our campaign - in coalition with TCPA (Town and Country Planning Association) and others - persuaded the Government to produce new guidance for local councils to:
- Tackle climate change.
- Deliver renewable energy projects to help us meet UK carbon emissions targets.
But the coalition Government wants to scrap this guidance.
It says it wants to reduce the amount of information local councils receive.
This could make it more difficult for local renewable energy projects to get the planning permission they need to help us tackle climate change.
The planning system can make a major contribution to tackling climate change - deciding developments in your community.
Please ask your Government to plan for climate change and move towards a low-carbon future. Thank you.
