24th January: Hey, Mr. Postman...
24 January 2003

Mr. Postman's got a
delivery..

The WEF this year has adopted the theme 'building trust'. What a joke.

They are not prepared to trust anyone - even participants in the Forum itself.

Today our Director - Tony Juniper - was detained by Swiss security police for the heinous crime of trying to deliver some letters.

...but is stopped by Swiss police's finest

He was carrying 170 letters personally addressed to the World leaders here asking them to stop big business causing social and environmental degradation.

To the WEF these letters in their Postman-Pat-style mail bag represented a grave threat to the security of the chief executives meeting behind closed doors. Tony was lured into the WEF's security area where he was bundled aside and detained.

Some of the
offending letters

Eventually they let him leave - without taking in the letters.

Double standards?

We wondered if the chief executive of Nestle will be put in the same position if he brings a bag -
or Colin Powell who's expected in a day or so.

We've been here before - the WEF is just not interested in hearing challenging voices.

Tony is a delegate to the WEF with an official pass.

But we're thinking of pulling out over these outrageous double standards from the WEF and Swiss authorities.

Greenwash in action @ Davos

Meanwhile the Public Eye has continued to be packed with interesting panels and it was standing-room only for this afternoon's panel on greenwash.

Don't let big business rule the world,

Matt
