The Age of Stupid
16 February 2009

The Age of Stupid is a new film about the consequences of dangerous climate change. It's going to be released in cinemas around the UK from 15 March.

What's it all about?

This drama documentary stars Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching "archive" footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance?

Friends of the Earth has worked closely with the film's producers and director during the development of the film and there are some great opportunities for local groups to get involved with its release.

Opportunity knocks

The film's release could help to:

  • Recruit new members to your local group.
  • Build support for your other campaigning work.
  • Act as a 'hook' for raising your profile in local print, radio and TV.

You might find opportunities to work closely with other activists in your area, and provide MPs or local councillors with a platform to speak (either in the media or at a screening).

It may act as a way to get an early public commitment on your campaigning priorities for 2009.

There are various ways your local group could get involved, including:

  • Letting your local e-mail network know about it.
  • Organising your own screening to raise funds for your group.
  • Building understanding and awareness in your area.
