The Angry Mermaid Award18 November 2009
It's not just environmental groups who'll be lobbying at the climate talks in December. There'll be businesses in Copenhagen too.
They'll be giving presentations, holding press conferences, meetings delegations and trying to influence decisions.
In fact, it's rather like the work we do.
Except they tend to want very different things.
Some of those lobbyists include the world's major polluters, or their representatives. And we can safely assume that for many, emissions cuts are not their number one priority.
Our colleagues at Friends of the Earth International have come up with the Angry Mermaid Award.
It is named after the mermaid statue in Copenhagen harbour and includes its own cartoon version of her (above).
The award is asking the public to vote for the worst corporate lobbyists. You could take a look at the shortlist and send in your vote. The winner will be announced on 15 December.
Don't imagine Friends of the Earth is against the idea of business. We've done a lot of thinking about how our economy can provide jobs and opportunities - while respecting the planet.
Take our Get Serious About CO2 campaign. This is calling for UK councils to get a grip on emissions in their area.
There are lots of ways they can - insulating homes, fitting green energy to buildings, for example. And tens of thousands of jobs could be created.
Are you listening Big Oil?
