Big Ask gets big billing20 October 2006
Environment Secretary David Miliband has said that a Climate Change Bill is likely to be included in the Queen's Speech.
Speaking to BBC journalist Nick Robinson, he said that a new law should legislate for the means to achieve targets - meaning new policies to cut carbon dioxide emissions.
The Government's change of heart is great news for the 100,000+ who wrote to their MPs as part of Friends of the Earth's climate campaign The Big Ask.
So far over 400 MPs have signed EDM 178 in support of a Climate Change Bill - only three EDMs since 1939 have had more MPs signed up.
The news is timely given the results of a new report, which shows that rising global temperatures could cost trillions of pounds - amounting to an economic catastrophe.
