Birmingham wins international award for energy-saving programme
13 December 2011

Birmingham City Council has won the Urban Retrofit Award for its energy-saving scheme.

The award was presented during the 2011 UN Climate Change Conference in Durban. It's one of just six Government Leadership Awards presented by the World Green Building Council.

The Birmingham Energy Savers scheme will see £1.5bn spent on retrofitting 200,000 buildings in Birmingham and the West Midlands over the next 15 years.

The project is expected to create and safeguard 60,000 green jobs.

This award validates and acknowledges years of effort we have put in as a council to ensure that we tackle the challenges of climate change and fuel poverty.
