What's been happening at the Bonn Climate talks?14 June 2013
As Eastern and Central Europe suffered its third 'once in a hundred year' flood, the UN climate negotiations re-convened In Bonn, Germany.
The flooding, which scientists say could have been worsened by climate change, is yet another warning of the planetary emergency we're facing.
As the Bonn talks began, the International Energy Agency said that current proposals could still lead to over 5°C of warming by the end of the century.
What we've been doing in Bonn
At the UN climate negotiations, Friends of the Earth has been working on a number of issues.
- We're working towards a 2015 agreement that is both ambitious and equitable.
- We've also been working with some of the poorest and most vulnerable countries for concrete solutions to deliver clean and safe energy for all.
Our model for a global feed in tariff is one of the concrete steps needed around energy at the Warsaw climate talks in November 2013.
What governments have been doing in Bonn
Rich, developed countries are refusing to do enough to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. Instead they're pushing for failed market based solutions.
They're refusing to discuss real support for those communities whose lives and livelihoods are already being impacted.
What needs to happen now
We're campaigning for a loss and damage mechanism to be a key outcome in Warsaw.
Discuss these and other issues at our international climate hub.
