New map questions England's future 1 January 2008
England is at a crossroads in terms of how we develop and prosper.
The choices we make now and in the next few years will determine whether our future is:
- Unsustainable and locked into high carbon use.
- Fairer, more secure and based on a low carbon economy.
When I said at the launch of the Stern Review that we were going to build a low carbon economy in the UK, I meant it.

Despite these declarations, the Government's proposals for:
are taking us away from a low carbon economy.
Our Building site Britain map shows the developments which have the most damaging environmental and climate change effects. These schemes are either:
- being built
- in the planning pipeline; or
- have been hinted at in local, regional or national strategies
