A fundraising banquet in Camden
11 October 2010

Camden Friends of the Earth recently came up with a fantastic way to raise funds - a vegan pop-up banquet.

Over 70 people attended the event at the Pirate Castle - a unique canalside venue - which was held on 10 October to coincide with 10:10 day.

Alongside promoting awareness of the 350 campaign the banquet raised over £1000 for Friends of the Earth.

Diners

Diners get their teeth into the delicious vegan food.

Four star menu

The menu had an international focus and included:

  • Appetisers - hummus and crudites, olives, sweet garlic
  • Starter - potato, leek and cauliflower soup
  • Main - Japanese sweet potato curry with roasted root vegetables
  • Dessert - apple cake, vegan ice-cream and a fruit skewer

Spreading the word

Once the plates were cleared Jess Gold - one of the group's coordinators - gave an after dinner talk. She explained that around half of the the food for the banquet had been sourced from local markets and shops who would have otherwise thrown it away.

Jess also spoke about the environmental impact of factory farming and the target=_self>Food Chain campaign and a stall provided more information for people to find out more and get involved.

We came along not quite knowing what to expect and were absolutely amazed and delighted at your success.

Pedal-powered sound

There was a pedal-powered sound system available so that everyone could see green energy in action. The group added to the fun by encouraging people to attend in a variety of fancy dress styles.

Swap shop

Alongside the banquet a swap shop was set up to allow people to bring along unwanted items and swap them for something else.
