Current year
259 MPs sign Food Chain Campaign Petition14 December 2009
A total of 259 MPs signed Early Day Motion (EDM) 845.
Signing this parliamentary petition showed their concern about the damaging impacts of Britain's intensive meat and dairy system.
This is great news for the Food Chain Campaign.
Over 30,000 people asked their MP to fix the food chain and sign the petition.
And we ended up with even more support for our campaign among politicians than we had anticipated.
Next steps
Now that they've admitted there's a problem, we want MPs to put their money where their mouths are by committing to act on our solutions.
We want to get all three major parties to include our demands in their election manifestos.
We are calling for all parties to:
- Introduce a new law to measure and reduce the impact of our meat and dairy consumption.
- Sort out subsidies - make sure that European farm funding supports planet-friendly farming.
- Protect farmers - introduce a watchdog to protect farmers from supermarket bullying.
Press for Change
MPs listen when thousands of their voters get behind Friends of the Earth's campaigns - so please ask your MP to publicly support our key demands in their party's manifesto today.
