Champions in action 1 September 2007
I was terrified. I felt like Tony Blair at the Women's Institute slow clapping incident.
So said one bit of feedback on the recent Campaign Champions event.
Luckily it came from Katie Elliott, our parliamentary campaigner. She spent the day pretending to be an MP - and was on the receiving end of some serious lobbying from Champions. Brilliant.
The event looked at the success of The Big Ask campaign so far - and what we need to do next. And in particular how to lobby your MP. Martin Horwood, MP for Cheltenham, gave the insiders view.
Champions have their say
I felt I couldn't turn this down. We have a tendency as individuals to think that we're not important and there's no point approaching an MP. But this has made me realise that we can make a difference.
Maurice Nesbeth, Champion from Kingston

If there was one thing I could say to anyone who's thinking about becoming a Champion? Do it.
John Kelly, Champion from the Isle of Wight

Martin Horwood MP, talking to a group of Champions
The campaigns have hotted up. When you see the way that life is changing, you want to do something about it. It's wonderful to know that there are other people who feel as passionate as you do.
Jean Hart, Champion from York
I don't belong to a group but feel that this is something I can do.
To be empowered is great, so if you've half a mind to help the planet, this is a way of doing it.
Stephen Whitehead, Champion from West Yorkshire
