Christmas comes early for EDF Energy

A team of spoof marketeers from EDF Energy celebrated Christmas coming early at the company's London headquarters this morning.

The energy giant's price hikes come into effect today - and a team from Friends of the Earth was outside EDF's head office calling for a radical shake-up of Britain's broken energy system.

The team handed in a Christmas card signed by more than 3,000 people to show how incensed people are by the behaviour of EDF – and the other Big Six energy companies.

The card included personal messages from people who've had first-hand experience of dealing with the energy giant – sent in by our supporters.

Here are a couple of them:

The word obscene comes to mind when I read about companies like yours.
Isn't it interesting that as my household energy bills shoot up so do the profits from the big six energy companies – yet when the cost of energy falls the profits keep on rising

Friends of the Earth's Final Demand campaign for energy we can all afford is calling on David Cameron to launch a public inquiry into the power and influence of the Big Six energy companies and for an end to the Government's clean energy kill-off.
