The UK's Climate Change Act goes on tour11 March 2010
It's not often that a piece of legislation gets a tour of Europe, but that's exactly what the UK's Climate Change Act is getting.
It's now the centre piece of a series of seminars hosted by British Embassies around the EU.
The tour
So far the Act has been to:
- Budapest
- Berlin
- Dublin
- Helsinki
- Madrid
- Vienna
- Warsaw
The seminars highlight key features of the legislation and make the business case for a low carbon economy.
They provide a platform for discussion of the Act, our Big Ask campaign and the local national situation on climate law.
They've proved valuable for building relationships between decision-makers, supportive business people and national Friends of the Earth groups - many of whom are engaged in Big Ask campaigns of their own.
The film
To support the seminars, and in conjunction with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department of Energy and Climate Change, we have produced a film about the Act.
It shows the wide-ranging support given to the Act and briefly describes the Act and some of the future plans for the UK.
The film features:
- Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.
- Glenys Kinnock, Minister, Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
- David Kennedy, Chief Executive, Climate Change Committee.
- Greg Clark MP, The Conservative Party.
- Simon Hughes MP, The Liberal-Democrats.
- Francis O'Grady, Deputy General, Trades Union Congress.
- Roland Rudd, Chairman, Business for New Europe.
- Chris Tuppen, Chief Sustainability Officer, BT.
- Ashok Kumar, Stop Climate Chaos.
Our thanks for, financial and logistical support, go to:
- UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
- Department of Energy and Climate Change.
- European Climate Foundation.

A legal review of the Act has also been commissioned. Written by Karla Hill of ClientEarth.
It forms a useful introduction to the Act, focussing on key features that make the Act so noteworthy.
