The Government has published a new national policy for tackling climate change, which councils should use when putting together plans for your area. It's called Planning Policy Statement 1: Supplement Climate Change.
How does PPS1 - Climate Change work?
Specifically this new supplement requires local authorities to show how they are tackling climate change in their Local Development Framework.
Local Development Frameworks contain the plans for how your local area will be developed.
Planning applications
PPS1 - Climate Change also needs to be taken into account in decision-making on planning applications.
When making recommendations for refusal or approval of planning applications planning officers must consider this climate change policy.
Please ask your Local Authority to make climate change a key consideration in plan making.
