Climate Change Bill announced in the Queen's Speech16 November 2006
The Government yesterday announced its intention to introduce a Climate Change Bill in the Queen's Speech. This is a massive success for Friends of the Earth's Big Ask campaign and we couldn't have done it without all the sustained campaign work undertaken by local groups.
Our recent Big Ask Big Month Big Lobby - when so many of you went to lobby your MP face-to-face to ask for a Bill - added to the thousands of people who signed postcards to their MP at local group stalls, has culminated in the Government's commitment to a Climate Change Bill. So thank you! Every surgery visit, media article, postcard and email brought about this change in politics.
The next step will be to make sure the Climate Change Bill is a decent one. We need year-on-year cuts in carbon dioxide emissions, policies to make the cuts a reality, and ways of keeping the Government on track. With your help over the coming year we can do this.
