Fixing the Food Chain in Colchester
8 November 2010

Colchester and North East Essex Friends of the Earth recently asked their local MP to back a new meat and dairy law.

The group was joined at a local farmers' market by Bob Russell - MP for Colchester. He was keen to lend his support to local farmers, organic farming and our Sustainable Livestock Bill.

Leading the way

The group was congratulated Mr Russell for his support for the Bill which MPs are due to vote for in Parliament on 12 November.

Mr Russell was one of the first MPs to sign a parliamentary petition in support of the Bill and the only Essex-based MP to do so.

County wide effort

As part of their work supporting the Food Chain campaign members of the group have also been targetting MPs around the county.

They've been contacting MPs in rural Essex constituencies to ask them to address the impacts made by the livestock sector on the environment.

Sustainable organic farming not only avoids the use of toxic and damaging pesticides in our environment and food - it's also energy-efficient and reduces pollution.
