Hundreds of Cold Times stories sent to MPs10 February 2011
Hundreds of people have been telling us what it's like living in a cold rented home.
We've had stories from:
- Students like Elizabeth who are struggling with heating bills
- Parents like Lynne worried about her daughter's draughty house
- Elderly people like Michael who find it impossible to keep warm at home
And these personal accounts from constituents are having a big impact on MPs.
Many more have signed a parliamentary petition backing a new law to ensure rented homes meet a basic standard of insulation.
Even some landlords think more regulation is a good idea. Rob in Sheffield said:
I'm a student landlord and have always properly insulated my rented houses. Unfortunately, I fear I'm in a minority and many other landlords don't bother.
Warm Homes
We're campaigning to make it an offence for landlords to re-let the coldest, health-hazard homes until they're improved.
And we're calling for landlords to get the financial support they need to make properties cheaper and easier to heat.
Tell us your story
Join the fight for warmer homes - and ask for action to protect tenants.
We know MPs pay attention to personal messages - your story could make a huge difference.
Tell your MP about your own experience of living somewhere cold.
