Climate change and our children
7 December 2009

Here's a nice story from the weekend's climate demonstration.

It's a reminder of why politicians cannot fudge any agreement on a fair way to cut global emissions.

As the crowd dispersed after Saturday's march, Dina Baird was one of a group of activists asked to meet climate secretary Ed Miliband.

A few minutes later, they all gathered in a conference hall near Parliament. And Dina (pictured) asked Ed a question.

Dina tells me:

I introduced myself as someone who became an activist after having three children because you do everything in your power to protect their future.

She then told the climate secretary she was doing everything in her power by going on the march.

Would Ed, she asked, be able to tell his baby he'd done everything he could for its future?

It's a reminder of one of many powerful motives for tackling climate change - what will we leave the generations to come?

And Ed's reply, one parent to another?

"He promised he'd do his best," says Dina.

So on the day the Copenhagen climate talks kick off, here's your chance to tell Ed of what his best would be.
