When Sunday comes
13 December 2009

Sunday lunchtime. To the Klimaforum where there's a talk on why carbon markets won't work.

Our campaigner Sarah-Jayne Clifton is on the panel of experts (pictured, right).

This includes Miguel Lovera (pictured, left) Paraguay's chief negotiator at the climate talks, and the writer and activist George Monbiot.

The event is packed and they are turning people away at the door.

Then it's on to watch a demo against industrial meat production outside the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (pictured).

Factory farming causes more greenhouse gas emissions than all the planes, trains, cars and lorries on the planet.

This is because factory farming demands massive amounts of soy - a key ingredient in animal feed.

Most of this comes from huge soy plantations in Latin America.

And to create those plantations, vast areas of forest have to be cleared.

The demonstration includes speakers from all over the planet - small farmers whose lives are blighted by industrial agriculture.

Later I'll be back at the Klimaforum for a  Friends of the Earth team meeting, where we'll be working out our strategy for the coming week.

Day of rest?

Unlikely.
