Weekend wonder14 December 2009
Here's another film from Saturday's fantastic march, made by our colleagues in Young Friends of the Earth Europe.
I don't think anyone dared to dream how successful it would be.
In the middle of the day I was standing looking over the main sqaure with novelist Liz Jensen, a Friends of the Earth supporter.
She lives in Copenhagen and said she had never seen numbers like it.
Arrests
No doubt you'll have seen the Sunday papers saying there were arrests on the march.
Well we condemn the police tactics.
This is the response from Palle Bendsen of Friends of the Earth Denmark.
"We are deeply alarmed by some of the Danish police tactics which have led to numerous peaceful protesters being indiscriminately detained.
"Danish police must allow people to peacefully protest against the lack of international urgency in tackling climate change - using their new powers to stamp down on large numbers of innocent marchers is completely unacceptable."
Dog house
Denmark is generally in the dog house.
Over the weekend, they've been hosting an exclusive meeting of around 40 delegates.
This excluded many representatives from the poorest countries of the world.
They did it last week. Now they're at it again.
Last week your action forced Denmark to promise transparency and honesty.
One week on and the Danish Prime Minister needs reminding that back-room deals are not part of a strong and fair outcome at Copenhagen.
Take action
So we're asking supporters to email the Prime Minister of Denmark.
It doesn't take long to do this sort of thing. I've timed myself and it took 65 seconds.
Honest.
A reminder of what Copenhagen is about.
Today's action - please email the Danish Prime Minister.
