New research shows that councils could create 70,000 jobs if they get serious about climate change.
Jobs could be created across England and Wales by councils:

Insulating homes and businesses
With loft and wall insulation -
Fitting green energy to buildings
Like solar panels and heat pumps
The research by Carbon Descent marks the launch of Friends of the Earth's new nationwide campaign Get Serious About CO2.
Every town and city in the country could benefit from new jobs created through strong action to tackle climate change

The campaign is calling for local councils to take urgent action to cut CO2.
Councils have a major part to play in preventing the climate catastrophe. They have a big say in emissions from:

Homes
-
Energy
-
Transport
Serious danger
The latest science tells us that carbon dioxide needs to fall now and fall fast - or climate change will make a billion of the world's poorest people homeless.
People in the UK will be affected too by:

Increased flooding and droughts
-
Rising food prices
-
Economic instability.
The campaign is calling on councils to commit to reducing CO by at least 40% by 2020 - and to produce a real plan showing how they will get there.
