Denmark here we come
13 November 2009

Welcome to the blog we've set up for the UN climate talks in Copenhagen next month.

I'll be covering the run-up to this critical conference, which begins on 7 December.

And during the conference itself I'll be in the Danish capital getting the lowdown on what's happening in and around the talks.

Why all the fuss about Copenhagen?

Well, this is where the world has the chance to agree on the next round of cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.

It is the latest stage of a process that began back in 1992, with the Rio Earth Summit.

Governments from all over the planet will be represented in Copenhagen.

In other words, the gathering is a very big deal.

And me? I won't be sitting around the table, twisting arms and arguing our corner.

That's the job of our brilliant team of campaigners, with their huge brains and eyes for detail.

But I'll be catching up with delegates and campaigners to bring you the inside track.

And I'll be on the streets, meeting some of the people who are coming to Copenhagen.

They'll be there to help build pressure on governments to find fair and effective solutions to the climate crisis.

Friends of the Earth wants a strong and fair agreement on cutting global emissions.

But we'll need to push hard to make sure it happens.

It's a massive opportunity and a chance to be a part of history.

So stick with me over the next few weeks not only to find out what's going on - but also how you can help.
