Derby public meeting highlights climate concerns
9 June 2011

A local Derby MP pledged his support for Friends of the Earth's call for a stronger Energy Bill.

At a packed public meeting Chris Williamson, MP for Derby North, agreed that the Energy Bill needs to be much stronger to deliver:

  • Big cuts in climate changing emissions
  • Warmer homes and cheaper fuel bills
  • Tens of thousands of new jobs

The meeting was organised by the Derby Climate Change Coalition.

Also speaking were Pauline Latham, MP for Mid Derbyshire, Liz Hutchins, Friends of the Earth's Parliamentary campaigner, and Paddy Tipping, Vice-President of the Ramblers' Association.

Other issues raised at the meeting were the Government's plans to sell off the forests, nuclear power and waste incineration in Derby.
