Time running out for urgent climate action in Doha
As the Doha climate talks enter their final hours, meaningful progress on tackling climate change seems unlikely.
It's vital that the developed world, particularly the USA and EU, take responsibility for tackling climate change and preventing a global disaster.
Doha delegates are rapidly running out of time - without urgent action to tackle climate change the lives and livelihoods of billions of people across the world are under threat.
We urgently need a route map for developing low carbon technology across the world, and a timetable for getting there.
But in the final hours of the talks:
- Developed nations like the USA continue to block any progress.
- Rich countries are pushing for a deal that is entirely inadequate for tackling our planetary emergency.
- People around the world are calling for real climate action before it is too late. International civil society have joined that call.
Any 'agreement' that does nothing to genuinely tackle climate change isn't good enough and must be rejected.
