The thin end of the dredge
27 April 2011

MARINET is the network of Friends of the Earth local groups campaigning on marine conservation issues.

One of the issues they campaign on is the damaging impact of dredging marine aggregates on fish stocks and coastal ecosystems.

Marine aggregates are gravel and sand from the sea bed which are recovered mainly for use in the construction industry.

To educate more people about the issue, MARINET have produced a new video in three parts, The impact of offshore dredging. The first part is shown below - the second and third parts are also available online.

The film features academics, activists, fishermen, politicians and the dredgers themselves. Although some of the content is now several years old, it's still as relevant as ever.

For further information, see this briefing paper on MARINET's website or contact MARINET.
