Hello again. Today has been a bit of an admin day for me. I've been organising a Friends of the Earth International fringe event for later in the week which has kept me tied to the office (a shame, as it's been lovely and sunny outside).
A plan comes to lifeBut luckily some of the action came to me. 100 of the figures we are using for the Hear our voice art event on Sunday were delivered here so we could practice setting up and get a good idea how long it will take us to install 6000 of them.
A practice run...
To ensure they don't blow over in the wind, we placed some of them on sticks which we dug into the ground. They looked amazing and there was something quite haunting about them standing there staring back at me. But this was intensified big time when the wind suddenly picked up and they began.....to move.
It REALLY brought them to life (which although strangely beautiful was also a bit spooky).
Deadlock in the conference centre...

Back in the negotiations, the US continues to be the biggest block on progress at the Earth summit.
No surprises there!
The EU has also been losing a lot of respect here.
So in a desperate attempt to get back in everyone's good books, the EU is supporting a (pathetic) new target on renewable energy. But the US won't even bring itself to support this crap target.
As Tony Juniper [Director Designate of Friends of the Earth] put it:
The reputation of the US is near rock bottom and every time they oppose another target or proposal their standing sinks lower still.
Let's hope there's some better news tomorrow. I'm off to look at all the fantastic African crafts which have appeared on stalls all over our campus (they saw us coming a mile off!).
Don't let big business rule the world!
Love Sarah
