Eastbourne signs up to tackle climate change14 March 2011
Eastbourne Council is the latest council to sign up to tackle climate change locally.
The council:
- Passed a motion to cut emissions across Eastbourne by 40% by 2020.
- Signed Friends of the Earth's petition to Chris Huhne calling for action from all councils across the country.
With more and more councils signing up to cut their carbon emissions, there's clearly real support to create a sustainable future.
Councillor Steven Wallis from Eastbourne Council who proposed the motion said:
We are committed to reducing the area's emissions and will work in partnership with many organisations to meet this target. Climate change is a vitally important issue for us to act on now for the sake of Eastbourne's future generations.
Brenda Pollack from Friends of the Earth said:
We're delighted Eastbourne Borough Council is committed to reducing local emissions by 40% - we look forward to seeing action plans on how it intends to do this.
