Taking a guess in Surrey
1 September 2011

Elmbridge Friends of the Earth have found a novel way to talk to the public on energy issues.

Taking part in Friends of the Earth's Big Energy Conversation, the group have designed an interactive game, which is enticing both adults and children alike.

Using a propeller from a model aircraft, which is driven by a small solar panel, people can guess which of nine possible plugs is the correct connection.

Each of the plugs is identified by a different source of energy. If they guess the correct energy source (solar of course) the lucky punter wins a badge and a balloon.

Reaping the rewards

With the help of the plug-in game, the group have collected over 170 surveys.

Thanks to some media work by the group, the local paper published a colourful picture and report on the stall.

The newspaper article was spotted by the council's Energy Efficiency Officer who got in touch with the group and invited them in for a chat about joint work.
