International organisations make emergency Doha appeal7 December 2012
As the UN climate talks enter their final hours, six of the largest environmental and development organisations made an emergency call.
ActionAid, Christian Aid, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, Oxfam and WWF told rich governments that they only have a few hours to reach a deal that reflects our planetary emergency.
They said that this deal must include:
- more public climate finance from 2013
- ambitious and fair emissions cuts
- a mechanism to address loss and damage.
The statement followed an open-letter to negotiators and ministers from social movements across the developing world.
Failure is locking in inaction for the next decade. The millions of people already facing floods and famines cannot accept failure. We call on all governments to reject an 'agreement' for agreements sake, if it does nothing to stop the planetary emergency.
