PM and Osborne meet for energy policy crisis talks17 October 2012
Green our electricity by 2030 or lose valuable business overseas, Friends of the Earth said today as coalition leaders met to discuss the Energy Bill.
David Cameron is having crisis talks with Danny Alexander, Nick Clegg and Energy Secretary Ed Davey - and Chancellor George Osborne.
These talks come amid criticism from senior politicians, industry, charities and the public over the Chancellor's push for a dash to gas. A move that threatens to:
- Increase our energy bills
locking us into soaring wholesale gas prices. - Derail the green economy
undermining investment in clean British energy. - Blow our targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions
feeding dangerous climate change.
Green is working
85% of people want the Government to back UK renewable power instead of gas. And a third of the UK's economic growth is from green business.
Green business accounted for a third of growth last year and it accounts for almost a million jobs already - the Government must act now to make clean British energy the powerhouse of our economy.
