'Enough is enough' on wind farms - Energy Minister
31 October 2012

Energy Minister John Hayes has launched an extraordinary attack on wind energy.

He told the Daily Mail "enough is enough" on wind turbines that have been "peppered around the country."

But Hayes is at odds with public opinion. Government research shows that two thirds of people back onshore wind power, with just 12 per cent opposing.

Energy bills

Rejecting onshore wind could lead to higher bills. The Prime Minister says wind will be among our cheapest energy resources in the coming years. If planned wind farms are not built it will cost us more to generate our electricity in future.

Climate change

The biggest threat to the countryside is climate change - we need carefully located wind turbines to help tackle it.

Community power

Community ownership of wind turbines makes wind power more popular because local people benefit directly.

The countryside simply isn't peppered with wind turbines and nor will it be - but the Government should make it easier for communities to benefit directly from owning their own renewable energy schemes.
