European Social Forum 2004

The European Social Forum ran from 14th -17th October.

Over the three days 20,000 people from nearly 70 countries took part in over 500 meetings, listening to over 250 speakers.

Friends of the Earth's involvement helped ensure that environment was placed firmly on the agenda.

The assembly of the Social Movements at the ESF supported a call for action on climate change in 2005.

These last three days have been a truly remarkable time. It has rejuvenated those of us in the UK and those from around the world that, together, we have the strength of argument and the passion of purpose to make Another World Possible.

Burning heat: Infernal combustion installation

Friends of the Earth co-hosted seminars and workshops on corporate accountability, trade, GM, environmental justice and more.

Friends of the Earth campaigners from across Europe also spoke at several plenaries.

2,000 people visited "Infernal Combustion", our installation recreating the horrors of living next to gas flaring in Nigeria, bringing home how communities have to deal with the problems associated with oil production on a daily basis.
