When I came across this image in a recent issue of the 'Times Eureka' magazine what immediately sprang to mind was areas of the South Pacific, where islands like Kiribati are sinking. The UK was way down my mental list.

I've heard about coastal erosion in the UK, but it's images like the ones in Joseph Fox's stunning Time of the Tide series that really bring the reality home.

Joseph's images won the Eureka Young Photographer award 2012. They depict Happisburgh in Norfolk where the cliffs are receding by up to 12m a year, despite coastal defences.

Sadly I can't show the whole series here, but the images are some of the most thoughtful I've seen for a while. The meaning Joseph attaches to this England flag is very clever. It brings a touch of humour to the devastating reality faced by the inhabitants of Happisburgh.
