The Midlands makes a stand17 February 2012
Friends of the Earth local groups in the Midlands have been gathering strong support for our newest climate campaign, Final Demand.
The campaign calls for our Government to stand up to the Big Six energy companies that supply 99% of our household energy.
Our petition urges David Cameron to launch a public inquiry into the power of the Big Six, to find out why our bills are rocketing and where our money is going.
The Birmingham and Wyre Forest groups made an appearance at Go Green Week events at Aston and Worcester universities last week.
Members dressed up as representatives of the Big Six energy companies in Final Demand stunt style. They spread awareness about the campaign and collected signatures for the petition.
Through their campaigning the Birmingham group has now collected close to 1,000 petition signatures. We're immensely grateful for their hard work.
Meanwhile in Stafford, local group activists held a stall in their town centre. Spoof energy company representatives thanked public for their soaring profits in true Valentine's style, with heart-shaped balloons and sweets.
The group collected an incredible 250 signatures for the Final Demand petition. They also took some great photos along the way.
