Early birds get the Mayor & MP22 May 2009
Richmond & Twickenham Friends of the Earth became the first local group to hold a Food Chain action this May.

Richmond and Twickenham Friends of the Earth meet Susan Kramer MP
The early birds definitely got the worm - both their MP Susan Kramer and the mayor came along to show their support for the group and the Food Chain Campaign.
Local group member Vicky Phillips wrote in to tell us more:
"So here it is - the first Food Chain stall!
Our two most local MPs, Susan Kramer and Vince Cable, had already signed Early Day Motion (EDM) 845 so we prepared a thank you letter for them from their constituents where people filled in their special concerns such as factory farming and rainforest destruction.
This might be a useful letter for other groups to have on their stalls.
We thought it was a good idea for the MPs to get a letter even though they'd signed the EDM so that they could say a lot of constituents were concerned about the issue when it gets debated in Parliament.
It should stiffen their resolve to be actively involved in getting something done in case they just signed the EDM because it was party policy.
We also picked up quite a lot of signatures for other MPs who hadn't signed EDM 845 yet.
On the whole it went down well with the public. It was quite complicated to explain in one sentence and some of the more hard of hearing thought we were worried about soil reduction rather than soya production!"
