Early Day Motions4 February 2008
Four new Early Day Motions (EDMs) on the Planning Bill have been set up by Paul Truswell MP.
EDMs are a way for MPs to register their concerns on a Bill or some other issue.
These EDMs deal with the Planning Bill's weaknesses with regard to:
- Public and parliamentary scrutiny.
- Climate change.
- Rights to participate and be heard in person at public inquiries.
- Democratic accountability.
A new plan for planning
The Early Day Motions call for:- EDM 603: Planning and National Policy Statements
National Policy Statments (NPS) must be subject to proper parliamentary scrutiny and public consultation. - EDM 604: Planning Bill and Climate Change
A duty on Ministers and the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) to consider climate change. - EDM 605: Planning Bill and public involvement
Ensure public involvement by guaranteeing impartial and transparent rules. - EDM 606: Planning Bill and Infrastructure Planning Commission
Restore the Ministerial role in deciding major planning project applications.
