Support a new community wind farm
24 August 2009

Some communities are already getting serious about climate change.

In the East Midlands an exciting proposal for a community-owned windfarm is being planned.

Taking the lead

Local and regional government has a big part to play to help avoid runaway climate change.

Local action to tackle climate change will:

  • Boost the local economy
  • Create jobs.

If the project receives planning permission individuals will be able to buy a stake in creating a clean energy future.

Great opportunity

The Gartree Wind Power Co-operative is being developed by Energy4All. It will be offering shares in a new wind farm near Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

The new co-operative will also put in place a community fund to support energy efficiency projects in the local area.

Did you know?

All three turbines will be 100% owned by the community - providing enough clean energy to power around 3,000 homes.

Get Serious About C02

This project is supported by Leicester Friends of the Earth the Pro Wind Alliance and who are working hard to encourage their local council to cut CO2 emissions by 40% by 2020.

Completion of Gartree wind farm would be a big step in the right direction towards reaching this target.
