Glastonbury meeting convinces MP to support stronger Energy Bill10 June 2011
At a packed public meeting in Glastonbury, Tessa Munt MP confirmed her support for "every single amendment" to the Energy Bill that Friends of the Earth is calling for.
The Wells MP is on the committee debating the detail of the Government's new energy laws.
The Government has proposed new laws to ensure landlords make cold homes more energy efficienct.
Ms Munt confirmed that she's put forward amendments to strengthen these laws to:
- introduce them sooner
- protect tenants from unfair eviction.
I don't think it's fair that people on the lowest incomes have to pay the most for their energy
Tessa Munt MP
Ms Munt also agreed that it's vital that local councils do more to cut emissions.
David Powell from Friends of the Earth also spoke at the meeting.
He presented Tessa Munt with a petition signed by hundreds of her constituents calling for a stronger Energy Bill.
Rhod Salter from Citizens Advice completed the line-up - speaking about the problems for tenants living in cold homes.
Take action
A stronger Energy Bill will lead to:
- big cuts in climate changing emissions
- warmer homes and cheaper fuel bills
- tens of thousands of new jobs.
Please ask Energy and Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker, to support a stronger Energy Bill now.
