Government vision for strong solar industry24 May 2012
Today the Government set out its plan for the solar industry until 2020.
We welcome the news that it's finally published a clear plan for Britain's solar future.
This comes after 15 months of dithering, which left a cloud of uncertainty over the solar industry.
To avoid a repeat shambles, an independent body should decide how much money solar power receives.
A good start but still more to do
Today's announcement is a good start. We're now hoping for equally promising news on energy created by:
- local communities
- social housing projects
- wind and wave power.
Developing the nation's huge renewable energy potential will help drive us out of recession - the Government must make it easier for communities, schools and hospitals to plug into clean power.
Andy Atkins, Chief executive, Friends of the Earth
There is so much potential for Britain to create its own clean energy. We need the Government to help our growing renewable industry to create jobs and bring down the cost of soaring fuel bills.
Take Action
Switching from dirty and expensive fossil fuels to renewable energy is our best chance of getting energy we can all afford.
Please back our call for clean British energy. Thank you.
