Pedal power energises Friends of the Earth
9 May 2012

The finishing line's in sight on the 500-mile Big Green Bike Ride to support our campaigns.

140 brave cyclists - including four slightly loopy Friends of the Earth staffers - are pedalling for the planet this week.

The Big Green Bike Ride is rolling from London to Edinburgh.

It's a 500-mile pedal over six days - raising thousands of pounds for Friends of the Earth campaign work.

I'm sure it will be a life-changing experience, and mostly in a good way. Most importantly it will raise vital funds for our work.

Our staff riders

Adam Bradbury is a singer and musician in his spare time. He's written personalised songs for donations.

"Some sponsors would like to see me in a polar bear suit for part of the way," Bradbury added. Intrigued? Read more on his blog.

Campaigner Ollie Hayes spoke in a high, falsetto voice for a day in exchange for donations.

This week Ollie's on the front of a tandem bike. He's roped-in six friends to do a day each on the back.

Indeed, one-day participants make up a good portion of the 140 fundraiser-riders.

They went that way

This year's route covers some of Britain's most scenic countryside. Lunch stops include a windmill-bakery in Lincolnshire and a castle in Berwickshire.

Day 1 - London to Cambridge - 65 miles
Day 2 - Cambridge to Grantham - 85 miles
Day 3 - Grantham to Beverley - 90 miles
Day 4 - Beverley to Great Stainton - 90 miles
Day 5 - Great Stainton to Alnwick - 75 miles
Day 6 - Arriving in Edinburgh on Friday - 85 miles

Watch and support them

Track Adam, Ollie and everyone on the Big Green Bike Ride - without even going near a bike.

And please spur them on with your donations. Thanks.
