Film night in Harwich12 October 2010
Harwich Peninsula Friends of the Earth recently organised a film night to highlight their ongoing efforts to Fix the Food Chain.
The group have joined thousands around the country in calling for planet-friendly farming. They decided to raise their profile in their local community by hosting a film screening of the eco-documentary Food, Inc.
Resounding success
Around 40 people attended the screening which had been publicised around the town with posters and also via the group's own website. Following the film there was a lively and vibrant question and answer session with guest speakers.
You must see it ... we need to take action now.
A film-goer's thoughts on Food, Inc.
On the panel
Group coordinator Adam Smith was joined by Ollie Hayes from the Friends of the Earth and David Hampton - a local organic meat farmer.
A wide range of issues came up for discussion including:
- Overconsumption of meat and food in general
- Can organics feed the world
- Farmers markets
- Where people can buy good quality food
Social time
When time for questions ran out the group invited people to a nearby pub to carry on the conversation over a drink. They used this opportunity to film short clips of people giving their reaction to the film.
Looking forward
The group are keen to organise future film nights on the back of screening Food, Inc which they hope will help attract new members. They are especially keen to hear from people who would be interested in helping them develop their blog.
Take action
