Healthy Planet prize giveaway1 June 2009
To celebrate the release of our new Healthy Planet booklet (PDF† 814KB) we have launched an exciting prize giveaway.
This is your chance to win a selection of selection of fantastic books - and learn more about our world. But first...
What is a healthy planet?
A healthy planet is our life-support system. Not only does it give us food, but also clean air, a stable climate and fresh water.
But nature's ecosystems are under threat.
Did you know?
Logging, pollution, industrial agriculture and over-fishing are contributing to rates of extinctions not seen since the dinosaurs.
Along with climate change these are the greatest environmental dangers we face.
Our new booklet examines the issues and highlights some astonishing facts:
- Forests are chopped down at a rate of 36 football pitches a minute.
- Many of our most important prescription drugs, like aspirin and quinine, come from chemicals found in plants and animals.
- A third of global food crops rely on bees for pollination.
- Economists estimate the planet's life support systems are worth $33 trillion.
How can I help?
The Healthy Planet booket tells you all about how we can help create healthy planet - from campaigning tips to new ways of looking at the food and resources we consume.
