A joint effort in Felixstowe1 May 2012
Local groups in Essex and Suffolk joined forces recently for a community event in Felixstowe. Group members got together with other voluntary organisations to raise the profile of environmental issues.
The event at Landguard Fort aimed to show people how to get more involved in their community.
The stall organised jointly by Harwich Peninsula Friends of Earth and Suffolk Coastal Friends of the Earth attracted lots of attention despite the cold weather.
Sowing the seeds
Group members talked to people about The Bee Cause campaign - encouraging them to plant bee-friendly flowers. They also made links with a local gardening group and suggested ways of getting the local council onboard.
People were already mostly aware that bees are suffering and were keen to learn more.

Fun of the fair
The two groups joined in the arts and crafts theme of the day with a variety of children's games. Crowd favourites included Pin the Bee on the Flower in which participants were blindfolded.
The stall also gave the two groups a chance to discuss issues they have in common - particularly those concerning the coastline.

For Suffiolk Coastal Friends of the Earth, this was the first public event since the group formed in February.
Our newest local group has hit the ground running, receiving a lot of positive comments - including from Suffolk Coastal District Council.
