Chris White put under the spotlight over Energy Bill2 May 2011
Chris White MP admitted to a packed public meeting that the Energy Bill as it stands will do nothing to help fuel poverty.
Local community meeting
The meeting was organised by Leamington & Warwick Friends of the Earth and Action 21, and was part of a series of meetings throughout the country about the new Energy Bill.
The meeting included speakers Matthew Rhodes from local low carbon building specialists Encraft, and Friends of the Earth's Climate Change campaigner Dave Powell.
Over 60 people filled the Leamington Conference Centre, including people from Community Energy Warwickshire, as well as local renewable and energy efficiency companies.
Energy Bill: not good enough!
The new bill aims to help the UK cut its climate change emissions, but Friends of the Earth have stated that the Bill will do nothing without major improvement, a point which Chris White MP agreed with.
strengthening policies and making money available for everyone to improve house insulation will not only create jobs but benefit those in fuel poverty

When pressed on the Government's record on green issues so far, Chris White responded:
Greenest Government ever? The short answer is: we have to be.
Chris White MP
A strong, green Energy Bill would have enormous benefits for everyone. Making sure the nation's heat-leaking homes are insulated and generating more energy from renewable sources would mean:
- Thousands of new jobs
- Warmer homes
- Cheaper energy bills
