Leeds Bradford Airport expansion plans grounded7 May 2009
Expansion of Leeds Bradford Airport have received a major setback following a fantastic effort from local campaigners.
In a packed council meeting, the airport owners were sent back to the drawing board to resolve the problems of climate change and traffic.
Councilors were heeding the advice of Friends of the Earth in refusing to give permission for airport growth.
Job opportunities lost
Councilors were also concerned that Yorkshire's airport expansion would cause the loss of green tourism job prospects.
A week later, councilors debating climate change praised Friends of the Earth for influencing climate action in Leeds.
Take action
The airport will need to bring the plans back to councilors at a later date. You can add your voice to the hundreds already opposed to the airport.
